DUI Attorney | Belltown Hit-and-Run Driver Pleads Guilty

May 12, 2010

There are some things a person should just never do. There are some things no DUI attorney, no matter how skilled they are, can get you out of. One of them is knocking over a pedestrian in a crosswalk and then running him over with your car. Don’t believe it happened? Well it did.

A few days ago a 24 year old Tukwila man plead guilty to vehicular homicide after running into then over a pedestrian he got into an argument with in Belltown, a downtown neighborhood of Seattle. According to witness accounts, the driver knocked the man down and then ran him over.

After tracking the man down (he drove off down the wrong way of a one way street) and stopping him, a DUI investigation was performed, which led to a blood alcohol level of .13 percent, almost double the legal limit (for what that is worth, which is not much).

For an DUI attorney this is a tough case. It’s one of those cases that pull at your heartstrings for the victim and for the defendant. The victim is obviously dead, and the defendant has probably ruined his life, and he’s only 24 (even if he wanted to start his own business it would be tough). Just goes to show you what one stupid mistake can lead to.

The lesson of the day in this one is easy – don’t run over people with your car. But, as a DUI lawyer, I think there are even more important lessons here. First, if you’ve been drinking and feel safe to drive, don’t go around looking for trouble. Get home, be safe, and live to play another day. It’s when you start taking chances like this that bad things happen. And second, don’t be so dumb as to even think about running someone over with your car, drunk or sober.

That’s all for another edition of Seattle DUI attorney news. See you soon.
